Description

Smaller Handmade Soft Turquoise Bump Spot Bud Vase

This muted, soft turquoise bottle shaped ceramic bud vase is handmade by me in my garden studio in Derbyshire. I threw it on the potter’s wheel using stoneware clay, then decorated it with bumpy stripes around the middle and neck of the vase – an abstract shape based on flower petals. I love combining inspirations from the nature on my doorstep with my love of patterns. I’ve added some deep blue dots to finish the design.

The vase is finished inside and out with a glossy clear glaze so it’s watertight and durable. The base is flat and stamped with my maker’s mark.

The narrow vase neck opening is about 1.5cm and the vase stands about 10cm tall –  just right for a few thin stems, like sweet peas, lavender, or a small posy freshly picked from the garden. These narrower vase necks also work well with my handmade ceramic flowers if you’d like to create an everlasting display.

To create the surface design, I cut the bumpy shapes from paper and apply them to the damp clay. I then brush over several layers of the turquoise slip and gently peel the paper away to reveal the soft white clay beneath. It’s a bit fiddly, I use tiny scissors, but one of my favourite parts of the process.

Packaging:
Your vase will be wrapped in tissue paper first, then carefully packed using recyclable materials wherever possible. I never buy plastic packaging or tapes. Any plastic based packaging in your parcel is being reused, I’m trying to keep as plastic-free as possible.
