Description
Do you want to have a go on a pottery wheel?
An introductory session, this wheel throwing workshop is designed for anyone who wants to have a go at throwing on a pottery wheel. No prior pottery experience needed, I show and talk you through all the steps in this fun and relaxing session.
Using my studio wheel, this session is generally 1-to-1 to give you proper time to practise your throwing. I can accommodate 2 people if you’re happy to take turns on my wheel. A 1-to-1 session is 2 hours long. If 2 people want to share their time on the wheel the session is 2 hours 30mins.
We’ll start with me giving you a brief wheel throwing demonstration then you’ll typically sit at the wheel for the rest of the session with me offering guidance whilst you’re throwing.
We’ll cover preparing the clay, how to centre on the wheel, then how to open up the clay and pull a basic cylinder (the starting point of many thrown vessels) and how to alter the cylinder to form simple shapes. You’ll get lots of time to practise your wheel throwing skills and will hopefully end up with a pot or 2 that you’d like to keep as momentos.
The price for this workshop includes the firings & clear glazing of 2 of your wheel thrown forms (more can be arranged on the day if wanted).
After your pots are thrown, the drying and firing stages take a number of weeks to complete. I’ll let you know when your pots are ready for collection, or I can arrange delivery for a small additional charge. Typical timescale is 4-6 weeks after your workshop.
